How to Perform Salah How to Perform Prayer in Stages for Women? I will explain in detail the procedure of prayer (for women). Islam has five pillars, and one of them is prayer. These are the names of the five pillars of Islam.
1. Kalima
2. Namaz
3. Roza
4. Zakat
5. Hajj

 

Today, I am explaining the second pillar of Islam, which is Salah (prayer). Prayer is obligatory for every Muslim, and Muslims pray five times a day. Learn to pray with sincerity and the rules of Tajweed before starting the prayer. It’s beneficial to learn the translation along with the prayer; it adds depth, and when you pray before Allah with understanding, it brings a sense of fulfillment.

There are differences in the prayer for men and women. In my previous article, I discussed ‘How to Pray with Images for Men.’ Today, I’m sharing ‘How to Perform Salah (for Women) with Images – A Step-by-Step Guide.’ After reading this article, you’ll understand the distinctions between the prayers for men and women.

Stand Up for Namaz

NIYYAH:

Before starting the prayer, perform ablution (wudu) or when necessary, take a full bath ghusl. Ensure that your clothes and the place for prayer are clean. Make sure your body is covered properly. For women, in addition to the hands, face, and feet, everything else should be covered during prayer. Face the Qibla {the direction of the Kaaba}.

For the prayer you intend to perform silently make the intention in your mind or say it quietly. During the prayer, keep your eyes focused on the place where you will prostrate, except when mentioning it.

Make sure your feet are facing the Qibla.

Men should keep their feet apart with a minimum width of four fingers, and women should keep their feet together during the prayer.

TAKBEER-E-TAHKREEMA both hands (Fig 2) to the height of the shoulders for women.

TAKBEER-E-TAHKREEMA

Instructions:

For women both hands (Image 2) should be raised up to the shoulders. Ensure that the fingers are together, and the palms face towards the Qibla. Remember to keep your gaze focused on the place of prostration.

تکبیر

اللہ اکبر

Translation:

Allah is the Greatest

QIYAAM Whilst remaining standing recite Ta’awwuz and Tasmiyah Silently.

QIYAAM

Woman should place three hands (Fig 3) over the chest with the right hand palm over the back of the rest hand,
keeping the fingers and aound the wrist like men.

Recitation:

سُبْحانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، وَتَبارَكَ اسْمُكَ، وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ، وَلاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ

Subḥānakal-

lahumma wa biḥamdika wa tabārakas-muka wa taʿālā jadduka wa lā ilaha ghayruka

Meaning: Glory and praise be to You, O Allah. Blessed be Your name and exalted be Your majesty, there is none worthy of worship except You.

QIYAAM Whilst remaining standing recite Ta’awwuz and Tasmiyah Silently.

QIYAAM

Stand quietly and recite the ‘Ta’awwuz’ (seeking refuge in Allah from Satan) and the ‘Bismillah’ (In the name of Allah) silently.

Recitation:

Recite Tauz or Ta’awwudh and continue with saying bismillah.

اعوذ باللہ من الشیطان الرجیم
auzu billahi minash shaitan rajeem
Meaning: I seek Allah’s protection from Satan, the accursed.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
bismillah hir rahman nir Raheem
Meaning: In the name of Allah who is kind and merciful.

 

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ رَبِّ الْعٰلَمِیْنَۙ(۱) الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِۙ(۲) مٰلِكِ یَوْمِ الدِّیْنِؕ(۳) اِیَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَ اِیَّاكَ نَسْتَعِیْنُؕ(۴) اِهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِیْمَۙ(۵) صِرَاطَ الَّذِیْنَ اَنْعَمْتَ عَلَیْهِمْ غَیْرِ الْمَغْضُوْبِ عَلَیْهِمْ وَ لَا الضَّآلِّیْنَ۠ ۷)

Alhamdu lillaahi Rabbil ‘aalameen Ar-Rahmaanir-Raheem Maaliki Yawmid-Deen Iyyaaka na’budu wa lyyaaka nasta’een Ihdinas-Siraatal-Mustaqeem Siraatal-lazeena an’amta ‘alaihim ghayril-maghdoobi ‘alaihim wa lad-daaalleen
Meaning: Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; Most Gracious, Most Merciful; Master of the Day of Judgment. Thee do we worship, and Thine aid we seek. Show us the straight way, The way of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy Grace, those whose (portion) is not wrath, and who go not astray.

At the end of reciting Surah Fatiha say Ameen.

Then recite any Surah, or a minimum of three short Aayats or one long Aaya.
Note :A Surah is read following Surah Fatihah in All units of any Sunnah and Nafl Salaah. It is only required in the First Two units of any fard salaah ,I.e.in the Third and Fourth units only Surah Fatihah is recited.
Note: The Surahs read after Surah Fatihah should be read in proper sequence as in the quran in assending order, with the next Surah smaller than the previous.

Surah Ikhlas:

surah ikhlas in arabic

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

قُلۡ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ

ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ

لَمۡ يَلِدۡ وَلَمۡ يُولَدۡ

وَلَمۡ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدُۢ

Qul Huwallahu ahad. Allahussamad. Lam yalid wa lam yu-lad. Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad.

Ruku Bowing Down): Women should only bend over sufficently so that the fingers can touch the knees

Ruku

Instructions:

Women should only bow enough to touch their knees with the fingers kept together, The knees should be bent and the back should not be straight like that of a man. Also ensure that the joints of the body are touched,
Women should keep their gaze directed towards their fingers.

 

 

Say ”Allah-0-Akbar”

اللہ اکبر سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيمِ

Three time
Subhana Rabbiyal Adhim
Meaning: Glory be to my Lord Almighty

QAUMAH Qaumah is to stand up from Ruku and return to the Qiyaam position

QAUMAH

Instructions:

Qaumah is to stand up from Ruku and return to the Qiyaam position keeping your arms straight by your side(Fig5).

Whilst standing up from Ruku recite TASMEE.

And when stood up recite TAMHEED.

 

Say ”سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَه”

رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْد

Sami’Allahu liman hamidah
Meaning: Allah hears those who praise HimRabbana lakal hamd
Meaning: Our lord, to you be the praise.

Sujood (prostratin): Then go into prostration in order of; starting by lowering the knees to the ground

SAJJDAH

Instructions:

Sujood (prostratin): Then go into prostration in order of; starting by lowering the knees to the ground (trying to keep the back straight but unlike men the women may bend their back going into Sajdah, then the palms of both hands, then nose and finally forehead.

Focus the eyes towards the nose. Women must ensure that they keep all limbs close tohether and close to the ground, including the arms, elbows, bottom and feet.
Both feet should point out to the right and point the toes towards the Qiblah.

Say ”سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الأَعْلَى”

Meaning: How Perfect is my Lord, the Highest

TASHAHHUD get up from the floor reciting the TAKBEER in order of forehead firs, nose and then hands.

TASHAHHUD

Instructions:

get up from the floor reciting the TAKBEER in order of forehead firs, nose and then hands. Sit upright (jalsa) and

Place the palms on the lower thigh butnot on the knees. Women should sit resting.
on the floor with feet ponting out to the right. In qadah set your eyes between the front of your hands in your lap.

Rest for a moment. Then say “ALLAHU AKBAR”and prostrate again for a second time reciting “TASBEEH”

Say ”Allah-0-Akbar”

TASHAHHUD get up from the floor reciting the TAKBEER in order of forehead firs, nose and then hands.

TASHAHHUD

Get up from the floor reciting the TAKBEER in order of forehead first, nose and then hands. Sit upright (Jalsa)and place the palms on the lowerthigh but not on the knees.

Women should sit resting on the floor with feet pointing out to the right. In Qadah set your eyes between the front of your hands in your lap.

Rest for a moment, then say “ALLAHU AKBAR” and prostrate again for a second time reciting “TASBEEH”

QUOOD Instructions:

Get up from second Sajdah and stand up back to the qiyaam position.

This completes one Rakaah(unit)of prayer. The second Rakaah is performed in the same way but do not recite Thanaa and Taawwuz, Start from Tasmiyah.
At-Tashahhud: in the second Rakaah after the second prostration remain seated (qada), as the above illustrations and recite quietly.

Here we recite Tashahhud silently:

التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ، السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

Attahiyat lillahi wa salawatu wa’t-tayyibat, as-salamu ‘alayka ayyuha’n-Nabiyyu wa rahmat-Allahi wa barakatuhu. As-salamu ‘alayna wa ‘alaa ‘ibad-Illah is-saliheen. ashhadu alla ilaha illallah wa ashhadu anna muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluhu
Meaning: All the best compliments and the prayers and the good things are for Allah. Peace and Allah’s Mercy and Blessings be on you, O Prophet! Peace be on us and on the pious slaves of Allah, I testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and I also testify that Muhammad is Allah’s slave and His Apostle.

When you read the shahada (testimony of faith – ashhadu alla ilaha illallah wa ashhadu anna muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluhu) ball up your right hand into a fist and raise your index finger. This symbolizes the tawhid or oneness of Allah. At this point if the salat consists of more than two rakat you would say the takbir, i.e. Allahu akbar and begin the third rakat. If the salah only consists of two rakats then you would continue with the following supplication known as Salawat which is sends blessings and salutations towards the Prophet Muhammad and Prophet Ibrahim, may peace be upon them.

ٱللَّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ ٱللَّٰهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin Wa ‘ala ali Muhammadin Kama sallaita ‘ala Ibrahima wa ‘ala ali Ibrahima wa barik ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala ali Muhammadin Kama barakta ‘ ala Ibrahima Wa ‘ ala ali Ibrahima Fil a’lamina Innaka hamidun Majid.”
Meaning: “O Allah, let Your mercy come upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You let it come upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Truly You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.

رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِي ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْحِسَابُ

To end the prayer, turn the face to the right such that the person behind can see one’s entire right cheek.

SAALAAM

To end the prayer, turn the face to the right such that the person behind can see one’s entire right cheek. One’s gaze should be on the right shoulder, while intending to greet the angels and pious jinn when saying:

السَّلامُ عَليْكُمْ وَ رَحْمَةُ الله

As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatuLlah

Peace and mercy be upon you.

Turn the face back to the qibla and pause. Then, turn the face to the left such that the person behind can see one’s entire left cheek. One’s gaze should be on the left shoulder, while intending to greet the angels and pious jinn when saying:

السَّلامُ عَليْكُمْ وَ رَحْمَةُ الله

As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatuLlah

Peace and mercy be upon you.
